Advice and Action

SOFLAG aims to provide advice on flooding for residents and local businesses, including during flood events - see our Latest Updates

We will work with the relevant authorities – Oxford City Council, Oxfordshire County Council and the Environment Agency - to assess whether a developing flood is likely to be serious and keep local people informed. During a flood, through our community volunteers and a new local monitoring network of gauge boards and boreholes, we will gather information on stream, groundwater and flood levels to help assess the ongoing status of a flood. We will also provide links to live information on upstream river levels monitored by the Environment Agency and help people interpret what that means locally.

We will keep an eye on what measures are being put in place by the authorities and use our Latest Updates page as well as local communication networks, such as through Street Champions and Friends of Hinksey Park Facebook page, to let residents and local businesses know what’s happening. We’ll also use these to gather your comments and feed them back to the authorities.

After a flood we’ll consult with the local community to identify what lessons can be learnt and discuss these with the authorities. We’ll also look at the water levels we’ve collected from the flood to see what insights these give for the future response.
